Reveal: Family Friendly Mudroom

This sweet and simple project was to transform part of the pre-existing kitchen into a functional mudroom for a family of 4.

We wanted to keep this room feeling modern and bright to be cohesive with the rest of the home (which we also designed!) while finding ways to add character with handmade and unique touches, even on a budget.

  • We used a fun & subtle muted green/blue shade on the exterior door (Sea Salt by Benjamin Moore)

  • We used natural white oak in several other areas of the home so in here we opted for a dark stain on the custom bench seating. We love the way the grain shows through as tone on tone with the tile floors.

  • We added horizontal shiplap to the walls, a cost effective way to add some architectural detail. We love how it adds modern cabin vibes into this space that is the gateway to their backyard.

  • We selected a simple IKEA cabinet for storage and added unique wooden handles.

  • We used floor & hanging baskets for storage simultaneously adding natural materials and texture.

If you can believe it, the below photo is where we started! This century home had the kitchen split between 2 different rooms in the house. Once we remodeled the kitchen in another area of the home we turned our attention to this room. We removed EVERYTHING, added a new exterior door and brought the new design to life.

BEFORE

We love how this mudroom turned out for our clients and know they will enjoy getting ready to play out in the backyard in here for many years to come.
